The Accessorized Woman (TAW) is owned and operated out of Charlotte, NC by Tameka P. Marsh. You can find everything from scarves to necklaces and more. I had the chance to chat with Tameka of TAW and ask her a few questions.
Toni: Your logo is so cute and I love the natural hair imagery on your website. Is that you?? If so how long have
Tameka: Thank you! Yes, that’s me. I’ve been natural since December 2009—last relaxer was October 2009, my wedding day.
Toni: Do you find that being natural and accessorizing go hand in hand?
Tameka:Yes! I’ve heard so many ladies say it, and I agree: my style totally transformed after going natural. Somehow going natural unleashed my real fashion sense—I never knew hair could contain so much power. I love providing some of that style to other women.
Toni: What led you to get involved in the fashion accessories business?
Tameka: In 2010, my job was threatened due to the economy. I never thought I’d see the day when jobs in education were in jeopardy. That, along with an inspiring message I heard at church, opened my eyes to the power within me. Along with realizing that having another income might be wise, I started brainstorming about things that I could sell that I’d enjoy. My husband and I discussed it and, in July 2011, my business was born.
Toni: Any words of wisdom for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Tameka: Yes. Focus your business and build an identity. I feel that I am near the end phase of establishing my identity. It’s easy to be swayed by what seems to be good ideas, but too many “good” ideas can cause a cluttered identity, which is not good for business.
