I started out as a Graphic Designer (this was my first job out of college) and also was my major at the University of Essex in 2002. After about a year as a graphic designer, I switched career paths to Advertising sales. After 8+ years in Ad sales I had an overwhelming desire to work again in creative field but wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do. As an avid shopper, I spend a lot of time in stores and started getting fatigued with the clothes in most stores. I wanted to wear something that was much more unique and unexpected. Something that made me stand out had more of a cultural flair to it and was still very chic and sophisticated. With this in mind, I decided to start my own label using my graphic design skills to design all of the prints. I attend FIT in NYC and I was on my way!
I wanted to have more fun with my wardrobe and couldn’t find the type of styles I was looking for in stores.
Two main things to remember – 1: Believe in yourself 110% because there will be enough people around you that will have doubts about what you’re doing. You need to self motivate in order to keep going and be successful. 2- Be smart with your budgeting and do not overspend to satisfy your taste.
