Meet Malaika! She is a 23 year old college graduate who is currently continuing her education at Ryerson University. She is a social worker who works with youth age 6-20, loves sports and travel and is a budding and very promising entrepreneur. After spending the summer of 2013 unemployed she decided to apply for a business grant through YMCA, was accepted, and started her own clothing company!
I first came across her brand ‘Ladies First’ on Instagram because of the fashion forward and trendy pictures she posted. I immediately knew I would become a customer! I can personally vouch for her speedy response time and friendly customer service. I had the chance to catch up with Malaika and ask her about the meaning behind her brand and advice for other young entrepreneurs, here’s what she had to say:
“The meaning of the name Ladies First came to me because I wanted it to represent respect of a lady. I struggled between First Lady & a few other names, then I thought of some traditionally common forms of respect, which is how I came up with Ladies First. To represent the respect the respect that should be given and wanted from a lady.
Nothing good comes easy, a lot of people want fast cash and as fast as it comes is as fast as it can go. so work hard for something your passionate about and respect yourself. Let the world see what’s beneath your beauty.”
